The Jamaican Foundation for Lifelong Learning and the Truth Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church of Jamaica have launched a significant adult education initiative with the opening of an Adult Literacy Centre in Portmore.
Launched by Education Minister The Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites on March 1 the centre will cater to up to 300 adults and youth per year in the Cumberland and wider Portmore communities.
JFLL Executive Director Worrell Hibbert commented “JFLL welcomes this partnership. As a worthy example of a public private partnership, it allows both Truth Tabernacle and JFLL to accomplish our educational goals.” He continued explaining “JFLL is on an aggressive drive to expand its reach and enrolment in the High School Diploma Equivalency programme. We are looking out for more opportunities to partner with qualified, like minded organisations to drive adult education.”
Truth Tabernacle will offer the JFLL’s HSDE programme that allows anyone aged 17 plus to enter the programme at the educational level best suited to them and secure 5 CSEC subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Social Studies, Integrated Science and Information Technology.
The partnership will see Truth Tabernacle delivering lessons to students registered there using the JFLL HSDE curriculum.
The JFLL is an agency of the Ministry of Education and is charged with the execution of lifelong learning interventions for adult and youth from basic literacy to the secondary level. The JFLL operates over 27 education centres across Jamaica thereby living up to its motto “Lifelong Learning for Lifelong Opportunities.”
